Police in Linden investigating rape of 6-y-o child

Police in Linden are now investigating the alleged rape of a 6-year-old child.

According to reports, a 44-year-old male suspected of the heinous crime was taken into police custody but has since been released on $50,000 bail.

Stipulation attached to bail is that the suspect is expected to report to the Police Station daily until completion of the matter.

E Division (Linden-Kwakwani) Commander, Linden Lord has indicated that legal advice has since been sought on the way forward.

Region 10 recorded the highest cases of child abuse in Guyana in 2017, with 22.1 per cent of the country’s total.

Director of the Child Care and Protection Agency (CCPA), Ann Greene, had confirmed that most of the reported cases in the region came from Linden.

According to information from the Agency, the overall rate of child abuse for Guyana in 2017 is 15.8 children per 1000 of the national population of children.
