Police destroy over $258M in ganja at Upper Berbice River

Police ranks in Regional Division #6 (East Berbice-Corentyne) have destroyed more than $258.7 million in cannabis at an farm along the Upper Berbice River.

Lead by a Senior Offier, the eradication exercise was conducted at Kimba, Upper Berbice River on Friday April 17, 2026.

During the exercise, two fields with a combined of seven acres which contained a total of 310,000 cannabis sativa plants ranging from two to six feet in height along with two makeshift camps, two drying areas, 380 lbs dried cannabis sativa and farming tools were also discovered.

The cannabis plants, dried cannabis, camps, drying areas and tools were all destroyed by fire.

The estimated value of the narcotics destroyed is three hundred and fifty eight million, seven hundred and twenty nine thousand, three hundred and ten dollars.
