Police destroy over $22.8M in ganja during eradication exercise at Canje Creek

Ranks from the Guyana Police Force Narcotics Branch and Regional Police Division #6 on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 conducted a joint eradication exercise at Long Savannah, Canje Creek, Berbice River.

During the exercise, ranks discovered three cannabis farms covering approximately 10½ acres, with an estimated 53,500 cannabis plants ranging from four inches to six feet in height.

At the first farm, which measured approximately six acres, ranks found about 30,000 cannabis plants, a makeshift camp, a drying area and approximately 20 pounds of dried cannabis.

The second farm measured approximately four acres and contained about 20,000 cannabis plants. Two makeshift camps and a nursery containing approximately 9,600 cannabis seedlings in 75 trays were also discovered.

The third farm measured approximately half an acre and contained an estimated 3,500 cannabis plants.
During searches of the area, ranks also discovered a single-barrel shotgun, four shotgun cartridges and a multicoloured haversack containing three suspected rounds of ammunition, two suspected 9mm rounds and one suspected .32 round.

All of the cannabis plants were uprooted and destroyed along with the makeshift camps, drying area and dried cannabis.

The narcotics destroyed had an estimated value of GYD $22,834,696.00 comprising:

-Cannabis plants — $13,043,800
-Nursery plants — $1,626,240
-Dried cannabis — $8,164,656

No arrests were made, and investigations are ongoing.
