Over $61 million worth of cannabis was destroyed during a drug eradication exercise at Low Wood, Demerara River today.
According to the Guyana Police Force (GPF), a team of officers discovered a plot of land measuring about one acre, which contained about 1500 cannabis plants.
A makeshift camp and drying area was also discovered a short distance away; about 150lbs of dried cannabis was found at the camp.
Further searches were conducted in the nearby vegetation, and a twelve-gauge shotgun with no serial number was found in a bag in a clump of bushes. The camp, along with the dried cannabis and plants, were all destroyed by fire, the police said.
The GPF said the cannabis plants carried a value of about $508,200 while the dried cannabis was valued $61,234,290.
