More than 1,000 new residential house lots are being prepared for allocation on the Essequibo Coast as the Government continues to expand its housing programme in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam).
Minister of Housing, the Hon. Collin Croal, made the announcement during a site visit at the Hoff Van Aurich New Housing Development on Friday, September 12th.
The area identified is part of the rear of Plantation Perseverance and will form part of the next major batch of allocations on the Essequibo Coast.
“Over the coming months, another housing development is being prepared for allocation at the rear of Plantation Perseverance. That is where we are going to be opening over 1,000 lots in our next batch of allocations for Essequibo,” Minister Croal stated.
The Minister explained that critical infrastructure is being advanced to support the expansion, including improved access through the Queenstown area. A major concrete bridge currently under construction will serve as an important gateway to the existing Hoff Van Aurich Housing Development as well as future housing developments planned by the Ministry.
The bridge, which is approximately 50 per cent complete, is being constructed to accommodate significantly heavier traffic than the previous wooden structure. The access route also serves the landfill site and is therefore being upgraded to cater for increased vehicular loads and the anticipated expansion of residential development in the area.
Meanwhile, Minister Croal provided an update on infrastructure works at the Hoff Van Aurich Housing Development, where more than 500 residential lots have already been allocated.
Infrastructure works in the development were divided into five lots at a combined investment of approximately $1.4 billion, while a sixth contract caters for the construction of the main access bridge.
According to the Minister, infrastructure works on two of the lots have already been completed. As a result, the respective allottees are expected to be contacted within approximately two weeks to begin the process of identifying their residential lots.
Works on another two lots are expected to be completed within the next two weeks, paving the way for additional allottees to begin identifying their lots within approximately one month.
Minister Croal said that, based on the current pace of works, it is anticipated that within the next month and a half, all persons who have received allocations within the Hoff Van Aurich Housing Development will be able to identify their respective lots.
The Minister noted that the scale of investment at Hoff Van Aurich, coupled with the development of more than 1,000 additional lots behind Plantation Perseverance, demonstrates the Government’s continued efforts to expand access to serviced residential land and create new housing opportunities for families across the Essequibo Coast. Works have already commenced on the electrical and water networks for the Hoff Van Aurich development.
The ongoing infrastructure works will also establish an important development corridor through the Queenstown area, providing access not only to Hoff Van Aurich but to future housing developments planned for this section of Region Two.
