The Peoples Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) has outlined in its 2025 manifesto its plans to position Guyana a leader in the Caribbean in the creative and cultural industries, by investing in, incentivising, and protecting these sectors.
Among the party’s plans for the next five years is to build and establish a new national museum to showcase the country’s natural and human history.
It also intends to build a new national art gallery to display the country’s artistic heritage and the work of contemporary artists across all media and styles.
Additionally, the party plans to develop a digital gallery to catalog and showcase Guyana’s visual artwork over the years, particularly paintings and sculptures, as well as a digital marketplace for Guyanese artwork through which pieces may be sold at home and abroad.
The PPP/C also has plans to create a world-class fashion design and production environment, including with an annual Guyana Fashion Festival, showcasing Guyanese designers and their work, and establishing a digital marketplace for Guyanese fashion to be marketed domestically and globally.
It also has a plan to create a world-class film production and performing arts environment.
Moreover, the party intends to expand the Guyana School of Music to promote greater interest, broaden involvement, deepen technical skills, and nurture talent.
It also plans to launch a calendar of musical events to showcase and promote local talent across all genres and provide additional exposure to local performers.
Similarly, it will launch a calendar of events to showcase Guyana’s literary talent and provide more exposure through technical workshops for new and aspiring writers.
It will also establish the Guyana Cultural Market at Palmyra, with thematic arcades
within, including an Arts Arcade, a Craft Arcade, a Fashion Arcade, as well as a
Flavours of Guyana Foodcourt.
The PPP/C also plans to establish permanent sites in heavily traversed but easily accessible areas for Art and Craft Markets and Flavours of Guyana Foodtruck Parks, providing marketing opportunities for Guyanese craft and culinary delights.
It will further Review and amend, where needed, the legislation on the National Trust and heritage assets including monuments, sites, and objects of national importance, increase investment in preserving and promoting national heritage facilities, and consider legislation to protect the creative industries.
These plans are outlined in the party’s 2025 manifesto which was launched today.
