New block at Yarrowkabra Nursery School commissioned

Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand, has commissioned the newly completed nursery school block at Yarrowkabra Nursery School, marking another significant step in the Government’s continued investment in early childhood education.

The school currently accommodates 90 nursery learners, a number that is expected to grow in the upcoming school term. It is staffed by nine teachers, eight of whom are trained, with one currently undergoing training, highlighting the Ministry’s commitment to delivering quality education through qualified educators.

This commissioning is part of a broader, nationwide effort to expand and improve nursery education infrastructure. Over the last four and a half years, the Government of Guyana has constructed 54 brand new nursery schools across the country. In addition to these new builds, 13 existing nursery schools have been reconstructed and 39 extended, with Yarrowkabra Nursery being among the extended facilities.

The construction of 54 nursery schools in such a short time is unprecedented and reflects a deliberate and strategic approach by the Government to strengthen Guyana’s education system, particularly at the foundational level.
