A 21-year-old motorcyclist, Stephen Seenauth, of Lot 1129 Charity Squatting Area, Essequibo Coast in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) was killed in an early morning accident today.
The incident occurred at about 07:45 hours on the Charity New Road Public Road, Essequibo Coast.
At the time of the accident, Seenauth was reportedly driving an unregistered motorcycle when he reportedly crashed into a motor car.
Based on reports reaching this publication, motor car HD 943 was proceeding East along the New Road Public Road at about 60 km/h approaching a Southern turn, while the motorcycle was proceeding West at a fast rate of speed.
However, as it was negotiating the turn, the motorcyclist overtook another motor car proceeding in the same direction and ended up in the pathway of motor car HD 943.
The car driver swerved to avoid collision, but the motorcycle ended up colliding with the front left side of the vehicle, resulting in Seenauth being thrown from the bike.
He was picked up in an unconscious condition by public-spirited citizens and taken to the Oscar Joseph District Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead by a doctor on duty.
Meanwhile, the driver of the motor car, 43-year-old Leon Featherson called “Match Stick” of Better Hope Public Road, Essequibo Coast, has since been taken into custody at the Charity Police Station. A breathalyser test was conducted, and Featherson was found to have 13 micrograms of alcohol in his Breath Alcohol Content.
Notice of intended prosecution was served on the driver as further investigations continue.
