The fire which started at approximately 06.30 hours quickly ripped through the flat wooden structure which housed the Tony and Cavita Shopping Mall.
One man told iNews (www.inewsguyana.com) that he was passing the area on Sunday morning when he noticed a small fire in the building and alerted persons who summoned the Fire Service.
The Fire Service responded promptly with one fire tender while they received support from a GUYSUCO fire tender.
The business, which is owned by a couple, retails television sets, stoves, other electrical appliances and clothing.

Persaud said he immediately alerted his wife, however they could not save anything from the building. The two stood and watched their small shopping mall burned to the ground.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
