Forty-four-year-old Onai Nassy of Norton Street, Lodge, Georgetown who was intercepted on Sunday while transporting approximately 36 pounds of cocaine concealed in frozen fish at Richmondville, Providence, East Bank Demerara was charged and remanded to prison.
Nassy appeared before Magistrate Tomika Clarke at the Diamond Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday and pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to him. As such, he was remanded to prison and will make his next court appearance on October 15, 2026.
It was reported that on the day in question, police, acting on intelligence, went to the area where they intercepted a motor vehicle driven by the suspect, who was at that time the sole occupant. Police stated that a search of the vehicle unearthed two bags containing frozen fish in the trunk.
Further examination revealed several parcels containing a white powdery substance suspected to be cocaine concealed inside the fish.The miner was arrested and escorted to CID Headquarters along with the suspected narcotics and motor vehicle.
The cocaine was subsequently weighed and amounted to 36 pounds. He was charged with possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.
