McCoy facilitates school readiness visits along Linden-Soesdyke/East Bank corridor

With schools set to reopen on Monday, Minister within the Office of Prime Minister with Responsibility for Public Affairs and Information, Kwame McCoy, facilitated a series of visits to schools along the Linden-Soesdyke Highway and the East Bank corridor to assess their readiness and identify issues requiring attention.

The visits, which was conducted in collaboration with the Regional Chairman Clemsford Belgrave, Regional Education Officer Colwyne Deplh, and community officials, included visits to the Soesdyke Primary and Secondary Schools, Timehri Primary and Nursery Schools, and Yarrowkabra Secondary, Primary and Nursery Schools.

A thorough assessment was caried out to ensure classrooms and environment readiness.

During the visits, there were several maintenance contractors putting final touches on the edifices as teachers worked to prep their classroom spaces.

They shared their excitement of welcoming some new students and those continuing.

Teachers Shantavia Harris and Jalcia Williams remarked that they are delighted to dedicate the time.

Meanwhile, Minister McCoy committed to ensuring that teams will be assigned to follow up on matters requiring further attention.

The engagements are also aimed at strengthening communication between schools and parents, including ensuring that parents have access to information relating to their children’s needs.

Minister McCoy further assured school administrators that the visits will not end with the reopening of schools, noting that he will return periodically to assess the conditions of the facilities and ensure that identified issues are being addressed and maintained. [DPI]
