A 45-year-old man has drowned at Capoey Mission, Essequibo Coast.

Dead is Andrew Edwards, a labourer of the same village.

Reports are that on Monday morning, Edwards and other villagers were consuming alcohol when he departed the group to go have a bath.

A villager recalled seeing Edwards went into the lake about 200ft away from the shore. The man then went under the water and disappeared.

Villagers immediately launched a search party and the man’s body was found.

The body was examined by detectives, and no marks of violence were seen on his body.
