Bird-watcher Jeff Gilligan snapped this photograph of a small boat in distress. Gilligan and others say the cruise ship he was traveling on did not stop to help the stricken craft.

The Coast Guard of the Guyana Defence Force were on Wednesday evening dispatched into the Atlantic Ocean to investigate a report that a man and a dog were seen dead on a French-flagged yacht which was adrift.

Inews understands that the GDF received the information from an oil tanker in the area on Tuesday, but did not immediately dispatch a team until proper confirmation.

The area where the yacht was spotted is said to be about 150 miles offshore Guyana.
