A 45-year-old inmate at the Lusignan Prison has escaped.
The incident occurred at around 07:10hrs today.
The escapee has been identified as Taje Singh of Lot 81 Zeelugt North, West Coast Demerara, who was serving a sentence for unlawful wounding and larceny of a water pump.
Reports are that he jumped the southern prison fence and made good his escape.
Prison and police ranks are presently giving chase.
