A fireman attached to the Lethem Fire Station and from Tabatinga, Central Rupununi, Region Nine (Upper Takatu-Upper Essequibo) was on Monday fined $150,000 or an alternative of 13 weeks’ imprisonment for several traffic-related offenses.
Thirty-four-year-old Thiago Rebeiro was charged with refusal to consent to taking a breathalyzer test, unlicensed driving, breach of insurance, and dangerous driving. The offenses were committed on Friday, May 29, 2026, along the Tabatinga Public Road, Central Lethem. However, he appeared before Magistrate Omadatt Chandan at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court, where he pleaded guilty to all the charges.
As such, he was fined $25,000 or, in default, two weeks’ imprisonment for refusal to consent to taking a breathalyzer test. He was also fined $25,000 or, in default, two weeks’ imprisonment for unlicensed driving and $25,000 or, in default, two weeks’ imprisonment for breach of insurance. With respect to the dangerous driving charge, he was fined $75,000 or, in default, seven (7) weeks’ imprisonment.
