Labourer remanded for stealing sheep, goats

Joseph Sohoye, 44, also known as “Sonnaboy” of Zeelugt, West Coast Demerara, was remanded to prison when he appeared at the Anna Regina Magistrate’s Court charged with stealing cattle.

goatDuring his appearance before Magistrate Sunil Scarce, the labourer was slapped with two counts of larceny.

It is alleged that he stole five sheep and two goats on separate occasions.

It is alleged that on Christmas Day 2015 at Wakenaam Island he stole two goats valued $100,000, property of Sasenarine.

The second charge stated that on December, 23, 2015 at Wakenaam Island, the defendant stole five sheep valued $230,000 also property of Sasenarine.

The Police prosecutor objected to bail, informing the court that the defendant fled his home following the incidents and police apprehended him at Bartica. As such the prosecution’s submissions were upheld and Sohoye was remanded to prison.

The case will continue on February 24.
