Police ranks in Regional Division #9 (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) have arrested a labourer after he was found in possession of an illegal shotgun.

Acting on information received, the ranks went to a farm in Karasabai Village, South Pakaraimas, where they met and arrested Joseph Francis, a 36-year-old labourer, after he was found to be in possession of an unlicensed 20-gauge single-barrel shotgun.

On arrival at the farm, the ranks contacted Francis, who was making clay bricks at the time. However, while talking to Joseph Francis, the rank noticed the single-barreled shotgun about ten feet away from where Francis was.

The police took possession of the firearm and asked Francis if the firearm belonged to him, and he said “yes”. He was then asked if he was the owner of a Firearm License, and he said “no”.

He was arrested and escorted to the Karasabi Police Station along with the firearm.

Investigations are ongoing.
