A Jamaica national was granted bail when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court, yesterday.

Marlon Brown, 33, who was unrepresented, pleaded not guilty to the charge which alleged that between May 4, 2016 and September 20,2016 he ‘overstayed’ in Guyana.

Brown told the court that he had lost his passport and, as such, could not return home. He stated that he is currently spending time with his father in Linden.

The prosecution objected to bail on the grounds that the defendant has overstayed for a period of six months.

Nevertheless, bail was granted in the sum of $60,000 and Brown is expected to appear again on October 7, 2016.
