Vice President Dr Bharrat Jagdeo says the government expects a proper investigation into the murders of several members of the LaCruz family of Waiakabra, Linden-Soesdyke Highway.
“I hope that in the investigations that will follow, we will get answers here too,” he said during his press conference today.
“…because this person who committed suicide, who got bail for assaulting and I gather it was brutal assault of his wife before, he used a firearm to kill members of the LaCruz family. So, we have to find out…whether this is an illegal firearm or a legal firearm. Because if he had a legal firearm, after the assault, you’re supposed to have lodged the firearm, he should not have been in possession of the firearm,” the Vice President explained.
A shooting on Wednesday evening at a residence in Waiakabra, along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway has left three women dead and one man critically injured.
The suspect, Parmanand Ramdehol, reportedly opened fire on four individuals: his mother-in-law Waveney LaCruz, his wife Maline LaCruz, his sister-in-law Sueann LaCruz, and his brother-in-law Seon LaCruz.
Maline LaCruz, a 26-year-old mother of three, was shot several times including to her back and throat.
Her mother, 50-year-old Waveney LaCruz received gunshot injuries to the left side head, chest, and hand. Her younger sister, 16-year-old SueAnn LaCruz was also fatally shot to chest and back.
Meanwhile, her 23-year-old brother, Seon LaCruz, received gunshot injuries to his left shoulder and jaw. He is currently at the Georgetown Public Hospital in a critical condition after undergoing emergency surgery.
The suspect has been identified as Parmanand Ramdehol, the reputed husband of Maline LaCruz. The couple shared two children, age 3 and 5, while the woman had a 9-year-old from a previous relationship.
Based on reports, Ramdehol was abusive and at the time of the murders, the couple was separated.
A neighbour told the police that she was out with the LaCruz women and the three children earlier on Wednesday and they ended up at the Soesdyke Junction, where the suspect showed up.
The women then left along with the children and returned to their home. The suspect then followed them and turned up at the house just at around 21:10h.
According to the neighbour, the couple was heard arguing in the house, where the other victims were also present. Several loud explosions that sounded like gunshots were subsequently heard.
The neighbour said she took the kids and ran from the house.
When the police arrived on the scene, the suspect was found lying next to the front door with a bottle in his hand and a pistol nearby.
He along with the injured brother were rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where Ramdehol was pronounced dead. Seon LaCruz was later transferred to the GPHC.
Meanwhile, the three women were also escorted to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where they were pronounced dead. Their bodies are currently at the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home awaiting post-mortem examinations.
Only earlier this year, Ramdehol was arrested and charged by the police for wounding and threats committed on Maline LaCruz. He was initially remanded to prison but was later granted bail.
Back in February, Maline had shared footage of her being dragged out of a hotel by the suspect after attempting to leave the abusive relationship.
