The Ministry of Housing on Wednesday convened a high-level engagement with electrical contractors and suppliers to assess progress on ongoing electrical infrastructure works and reinforce the importance of timely completion of projects across housing developments nationwide.
The meeting was led by Minister of Housing, Collin Croal; Minister within the Ministry, Vanessa Benn; Permanent Secretary, Mr. Bishram Kuppen; Deputy Director of Projects, Mr. Intecab Indarjeet; Senior Electrical Engineer, Mr. Davindra Ramnarine; and Superintendent of Works (Electrical), Mr. Colin Trotman.
The session formed part of the Ministry’s continued efforts to closely monitor infrastructure works within housing schemes and ensure that essential services are delivered to allottees as quickly and efficiently as possible.
During the meeting, contractors provided detailed updates on the status of ongoing electrical works in several housing developments across the country.
Minister Croal underscored the importance of completing the electrical networks within the various housing developments promptly, noting that these works are critical to ensuring residents can fully benefit from the Government’s housing programme.
Contractors were urged to increase their manpower and other resources where necessary to accelerate outstanding works and meet project timelines.
The engagement also provided contractors with the opportunity to openly discuss the challenges affecting project execution, including operational and logistical issues. Ministry officials listened to the concerns raised and reaffirmed their commitment to working collaboratively with contractors to address obstacles while maintaining the expected standards and timelines.
Contractors also highlighted areas where significant progress has already been made and reiterated their commitment to completing their respective projects.
Representatives from Cummings Electrical, Astra Services, Ramoutar and Sons Contracting Services, MV’s Electrical Contracting Services, N. Balgobin & Sons Contracting Services & Electrical Supplies, N. Hussain & Sons Enterprise Inc., Adams Enterprise, ACB Enterprise, and SkyTec Enterprise International Inc. participated in the discussions.
The Ministry reaffirmed that regular engagements with contractors remain an important part of its strategy to monitor project implementation, resolve challenges promptly, and ensure that the necessary infrastructure is completed to support the continued expansion of housing developments across Guyana.
