President of ExxonMobil Guyana, Alistair Routledge, announced on Monday that Guyanese could help name the Floating Production, Storage, and Offloading (FPSO) unit, which will be built by MODEC for the Hammerhead project.

Presently, the FPSOs operating in the Stabroek Block are named Liza Destiny, Liza Unity, Prosperity, and One Guyana.

The Hammerhead development is the seventh offshore project within Guyana’s prolific Stabroek Block, which is operated by ExxonMobil Guyana Limited (EMGL) in conjunction with its co-venturers, Hess Corporation (which was acquired by Chevron) and CNOOC.

During a press conference on Monday, Routledge was asked about considerations for naming the Hammerhead FPSO and in response, he stated that ExxonMobil Guyana and the Guyana Government have decided to launch a public naming competition to find the best name for the vessel.

Details of this competition, he indicated, will be available in due time in the press. The US$6.8 billion Hammerhead project will be produced through a Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) conversion-type, the company previously explained. Production will be facilitated through 10 production wells and 8 injection wells.

A total of 445 million barrels of oil is forecast to be produced, with an estimated daily production capacity of 150,000 barrels of oil per day (bopd). First oil is anticipated by 2029, boosting Guyana’s overall production capacity to approximately 1,500,000 bpd.

Additionally, the associated gas produced from the Hammerhead Project reservoir will be transferred to the Gas to Energy (GtE) pipeline network.

The Hammerhead project is expected to enhance energy security, drive industrial growth, and create employment across various sectors as it joins a growing portfolio of developments that continue to position Guyana as a key player in the global energy landscape.
