A bartender attached to the Guinness Bar on Durban Street, Georgetown, narrowly escaped being shot, or worse, dead after two gunmen stormed into his workplace late last night and executed a robbery.

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum told INews this morning that the employee of the well-known establishment was closing up the building when the incident took place.

He stated that the two perpetrators who were armed with one hand-gun each, held up the bartender and stole his cellular phone along with a small quantity of cash.

One of the bandits then used his firearm and dealt a blow to the head of the bartender before the duo made good their escape.

According to Blanhum, the employee of the bar was subsequently taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) where he was treated for his injuries then sent away.

Meanwhile, police ranks continue to conduct investigations into the matter.
