The Ministry of Public Works wishes to advise the general public that the southern carriageway of the Rupert Craig Highway, specifically the stretch from Ogle to the University of Guyana Road in Cummings Lodge, has been experiencing structural deterioration.
This surface scaling is a natural consequence of the infrastructure’s age, significant daily traffic loading, and general wear and tear over time.
Such degradation on the aforementioned section of the highway is entirely expected and not unusual, as asphalt surfaces laid over twenty years ago are naturally subject to environmental and structural fatigue. The public may recall that similar, highly successful remedial works were executed along the northern carriageway, heading west from Sparendaam to Liliendaal, to address identical age-related degradation.
To rectify the current structural issues, the Ministry will commence comprehensive remedial works beginning on Monday, 13 July 2026. In a concerted effort to minimise inconvenience to daily commuters and to facilitate the continuous flow of traffic, our engineering teams will deliberately schedule and execute these repairs outside of peak traffic hours.
Furthermore, all necessary traffic management measures will be implemented on-site to ensure the absolute safety of both road users and our construction personnel.
The Ministry sincerely solicits the patience, understanding, and cooperation of all motorists and pedestrians during this critical maintenance period.
Road users are strongly urged to exercise heightened caution when navigating the active construction zone, to reduce their speed appropriately, and to adhere strictly to all posted traffic signs and direction when works commence.
