Vice President Dr Bharrat Jagdeo said the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Administration has moved firmly out of campaign mode and into delivery of promises made in its 2025 Manifesto.

Speaking with reporters at the Arthur Chung Conference Centre (ACCC) on the sidelines of his Public Day on Monday, the VP said his reduced public presence in recent months was not cause for concern.

“My role changed from general secretary of the party and shifted from campaign to planning,” he told reporters.

The vice president stressed that governing requires a different effort than campaigning.

“To keep the economy going and not…suffer from the Dutch disease requires a lot of planning,” he explained, stating that, “People don’t understand that …when you are not in the public domain, you are working.”

Among the priorities of the government are the construction of 40,000 homes for families nationwide, costing the administration some $600 million GYD. Additionally, nearly 90,000 street lights and 2,000 security cameras will be deployed nationwide.

Apart from infrastructure and security, the government is also staffing newly built hospitals through an aggressive international recruitment drive.

Efforts to expand procurement opportunities for small contractors are also underway, a matter he spoke to at length during the same engagement.

“We have done the campaign and now we have to deliver on what we promised our people on the campaign. That is what we are working on,” he stated.

The vice president acknowledged that delivery on this scale will not satisy everyone immediately, but said the government remains committed to following through.

He also confirmed that his press conferences would be resuming, saying they would focus mainly on government matters rather than political ones. [DPI]
