Georgetown resident sentenced to 120 months in jail for robbery underarms

Robbery[www.inewsguyana.com] – A man was sentenced to 120 months in jail and fined $200,000 when he appeared in the Georgetown Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Judy Latchman charged with robbery underarms and possession of gun and ammunition.

Forty – eight – year old Gromyko Gomes of River View Ruimveldt, Georgetown made his first court appearance on December 7 last year but was not allowed to plead to the charge.

According to reports on December 4, 2012 the accused along with two others attacked and robbed Vincent Da Silva of his .23 revolver, two cartridges, 15 live rounds of ammunition, one gold ring and one motor car totaling $2.2M.

The Magistrate, who prior to her ruling noted the seriousness and prevalence of such crimes, sentenced the accused to 60 months in jail for the robbery underarms charge, 60 months along with $100,000 fine for the possession of the gun charge and 60 months along with $100,000 fine for possession of ammunition charge.
