GECOM employee remanded for $5M theft

Dikimbie Gittens, an employee of the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), has been charged and remanded to prison for allegedly stealing $5 million in cash from the body.

The 30-year-old Assistant Accountant of Onderneeming, Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, was arrested on Monday.

Today, he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates Court before Magistrate Fabayo Azore, where he was charge for committing the offence “Larceny by Clerk or Servant: Contrary to Section 184 of the Criminal Law (Offences) Act, Chapter 8:01”.

He was not required to plead, bail was refused, and the matter was adjourned to October 15.

Gittens is accused of stealing a little over $5M from the GECOM Secretariat at Barrack and Fort Streets, Kingston, Georgetown, sometime between September 15 and 16, 2025.
