Guyana Bank for Trade and Industry Limited (GBTI) has recorded a 44 per cent increase in profit after taxation for the nine months ended September 30, 2026, with total revenue also rising by 18 per cent.

The bank, in a published statement in today’s Guyana Times, reported profit after taxation of $4.795 billion, compared with $3.341 billion for the corresponding period in 2025, according to its unaudited financial results released on Friday.

Total revenue increased to $12.509 billion, up from $10.636 billion in the previous year. This included interest income of $9.319 billion, compared with $7.650 billion in 2025, while other income rose to $3.190 billion from $2.986 billion.

Earnings per share also increased by 43 per cent, moving from $83 to $119.

In his commentary accompanying the results, GBTI Chairman Suresh E. Beharry said the bank’s performance reflected resilient earnings, balance sheet management and sound capital adequacy.

He noted that the bank’s return on average equity stood at 18.1 per cent, compared with 14.14 per cent for the corresponding period last year.

The bank also recorded growth in its deposit base, with total deposits reaching $292 billion, representing a 13 per cent increase year-on-year.

Beharry attributed the performance to continued client engagement and confidence in the bank’s services, as well as the execution of its strategic priorities.

Meanwhile, GBTI’s capital adequacy ratio stood at 15.48 per cent at September 30, 2026, compared with 18.10 per cent at the same point in 2025. The Common Equity Tier 1 ratio also declined from 15.49 per cent to 13.45 per cent.

The bank explained that the movement in its capital ratios reflected an increase in risk-weighted assets year-on-year in support of business growth.

Its annualised return on average assets improved to 1.94 per cent, compared with 1.62 per cent in 2025.

Looking ahead to the end of the financial year, Beharry said GBTI would continue to pursue growth opportunities while maintaining prudent risk management and strengthening execution across its operations.

He said the approach would be important to sustaining the bank’s performance and positioning it for the year ahead.

The financial summary is based on unaudited results for the nine months ended September 30, 2026. Full financial statements are available on the bank’s website.
