The Flying Stars Cycle Club has officially launched its 2026 Tri-Fector Criterium Memorial Series, with three races scheduled across Georgetown, Mahaicony and Linden between October 24 and November 1.
Club founder Victor Rutherford announced the programme during the launch of the club’s 2026 Cycling Memorial Activities, outlining a proposed schedule that begins on Saturday, October 24 at the Vlissengen Road Circuit in Georgetown.
The second event is set for Saturday, October 31 in Mahaicony, while the series is expected to conclude on Sunday, November 1 in Linden.
The memorial activities, now entering their fifth year, honour former members of the cycling fraternity Rudolph “Duckie” Singh, Aubrey Gordon and Mark Conway.
The initiative initially began as the Duckie Memorial in recognition of Singh, a former president of the Flying Stars Cycle Club, before being expanded to remember Gordon and Conway.
Rutherford said the races are intended to preserve the contributions of those who helped to shape cycling while also giving experienced and emerging cyclists opportunities to compete.
He noted that while competition remains an important part of the events, the memorial series also serves to preserve the sport’s history, strengthen friendships within the cycling community and expose younger riders to the legacy of those who came before them.
The Flying Stars Cycle Club was established in 1972 after Rutherford saw a need for stronger representation within the Cycling Federation of Guyana. More than five decades later, the organisation continues to play a role in the development of the sport.
Among those who have served as presidents of the club are Neville Rutherford, Donald Robinson, Singh and Hector Edwards.
The club has also been represented over the years by several notable cyclists, including Neville and Cyril Hunte, Errol McLean, Dennis Medford and Randolph Toussaint.
Rutherford used the launch to encourage younger cyclists to learn more about the history of the sport while urging experienced riders to share their knowledge with the next generation.
He also expressed appreciation to the Office of the Prime Minister, National Sports Commission, Dr. Rhonda Archer, Sara Parris, DaSilva Optical, Louis London Jr., Lorraine Darnley, the Rutherford Family, Bernard Super Store, Ansa McAl and the Singh Family for supporting the memorial activities.
The club is hoping the three events will once again attract cyclists, families and supporters as it continues its annual tradition of remembering past contributors while providing competitive opportunities for present and future riders.
