Police ranks in Regional Division #2 (Pomeroon-Supenaam) have arrested a fisherman who was found in possession of 14.5 grams of cocaine at Charity, Essequibo Coast.
The discovery was made at about 05:20h today (Sunday, April 19, 2026) during a patrol conducted in the vicinity of Charity Public Road.
Based on police reports, the ranks, while on patrol, stopped the 32-year-old fisherman of Unity/Lancaster Squatting Area, East Coast Demerara, who was riding a bicycle in an eastern direction.
A search was conducted on his person, but nothing of evidential value was found. However, a search of a grey single-strap bag he was wearing at the time led to the discovery of one transparent plastic bag containing three small transparent plastic bags with several whitish creamish rock-like substances suspected to be cocaine.
The suspect was arrested and escorted to the Charity Police Station, where the suspected substance was weighed in his presence and amounted to 14.5 grams before being lodged.
The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
