Two men from Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) were fined $100,000 each after pleading guilty to separate Driving Under Influence (DUI) charges.
Roderick George, a 71-year-old teacher of Tabatinga, Lethem, Central Rupununi, and Terrell Pauline, a 24-year-old fireman of St. Ignatius Village, Central Rupununi, were both charged with Driving a Motor Vehicle While Breath Alcohol Level Exceeded the Prescribed Limit.
The charges were laid under Section 39A(1) of the Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, Chapter 51:02.
In George’s case, offence was committed on Monday, August 3, 2026, on Tabatinga Public Road, Lethem.
On the other hand, PaPauli’s charge was in relation to an offence committed on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, on St. Ignatius Public Road, Central Rupununi.
Both men appeared before Her Worship Magistrate Nikkisha Logan on Friday August 7, 2026, at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court, where the charges were read ttothem separately.
They pleaded guilty and were fined $100,000 or two weeks’ imprisonment in default of payment.
