The workshop, facilitated by Lotus LLC and supported by Environmental and Technical Services Inc. and ExxonMobil Guyana Ltd., aimed to strengthen national capacity to safely regulate and manage radioactive materials arising from industrial activities, particularly in the oil and gas sector.
The training covered international best practices, radiation types, monitoring and detection techniques, regulatory requirements, decontamination methods, use of PPE, and emergency response procedures.
Participants included representatives from the EPA, ExxonMobil Guyana, the Guyana Geology and Mines Commission, the Ministry of Natural Resources, and Sustainable Environmental Solutions, highlighting a coordinated, multi-agency approach.
At the end of the workshop, participants received certification in radiation surveying, safe-work procedures, and emergency response related to NORM, reinforcing the EPA’s commitment to protecting public health, workers, and the environment through strengthened technical and regulatory capacity.
