East La Penitence man charged with armed robbery granted bail

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Junior McLennon,  of East La Penitence Squatting Area, Georgetown, charged with robbery under arm was placed on $80,000 bail by Magistrate Ann McLennan.

He first appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine and pleaded not guilty to the allegation, which stated that on April 20 at Kitty Seawall, Georgetown, being in the company of others and armed with a knife, robbed Jamaal Mark of one LG Android phone, one protection baton and one Puma bag, together valued $26,300.

He also pleaded not guilty to a second count of robbery which alleged that on the same day, being armed with a knife, he robbed Ashanti Bess of one Nokia cellular phone and cash $3,000 together valued $13,000.

Police Prosecutor, Bharat Mangru told the Court that on the day in question complainants were at Kitty Seawall in the vicinity of Celina Resort, when the defendant along with four others approached them, armed with the weapon and relieved them both of the articles.

They all made good their escape on that day but on May 16, McLennon was seen by one of the victim and was subsequently pointed out to a nearby Police.

The case was transferred before Magistrate McLennan and the defendant, a welder was ordered to return to Court on June 5. He was represented by Clyde Forde.
