Duo accused of stealing $900,000 in wood

[www.inewsguyana.com] – A Chainsaw Operator and Labourer accused of stealing a large quantity of lumber from the lumber yard where they work, were granted $60,000 bail each by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry today (January 22).

Danguan Sukhu, a 52 – year – old Chainsaw Operator of Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke-Linden and Ramraj Persaud, a 34 – year – old Labourer of Lot 83 Section ‘C’ Plantation Hope, Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice both pleaded not guilty to the simple larceny charge.

It is alleged that between December 5 and December 7, 2014 at Issano Road, Omai, Essequibo River they stole 4500 board measure (BM) wood valued $900,000, property of Bharat Nandlall.

Police Prosecutor Michael Grant did not oppose bail since the men were released on station bail. He did not present facts in Court. They are expected to return to Court on February 6.

iNews understands that the men reportedly stole the wood and sold it to another lumber yard.
