Cricket West Indies on Tuesday confirmed that its Rising Stars U17 Championship bowled off in Trinidad, across multiple venues including Queen’s Park Oval (QPO), Brian Lara Cricket Aademy (BLCA), The National Cricket Centre (NCC), Inshan Ali Park, Gilbert Park and Pierre Road Ground.

This year’s competition, which once again consists of two main formats, a 2-Day Championship and a 50-Over Cup Championship, officially commenced with the teams’ official travel day on 10 August and will conclude on 2 September.

The tournament features two group divisions for the 2-Day Championship. Group A comprises Barbados, Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago, while Group B includes the Windward Islands, Guyana and Leeward Islands Tropical Wave.

Matches will be played in three rounds from 12 to 21 August from 10:00h to 17:00h daily.

The 50-Over Cup Championship matches are scheduled for 24 August to 1 September from 9:30am to 4:40pm daily for five rounds with each of the six teams playing their opponents once.

The tournament concludes with the Awards Ceremony at the Couva Chamber of Commerce at 7 pm on 1 September before teams depart to their home territories on 2 September.

Cricket West Indies Director of Cricket Miles Bascombe expressed his delight at hosting the tournament another year.

“The Rising Stars Under 17 Championship is one of the most important stepping stones in our player development pathway. By giving our young cricketers exposure to both the 2-Day red-ball format and the 50-Over white-ball format, we are building all-round skills, discipline and adaptability from an early age.”

“This tournament mirrors the demands of the modern game, ensuring that by the time these players progress to higher levels, they already understand how to adjust their techniques, tactics and mindset for different conditions and formats.”

“It is an important competition where we get to see future regional Under 19 representatives in action and is a fantastic opportunity for them to showcase their abilities, continue to learn the game and take massive strides towards that next level.”

This tournament is pivotal for scouting regional talent, which further enables player progression to West Indies senior international cricket and remains a key element of the West Indies Rising Stars development programme.
