Customs Broker sentenced to 18 months jail for stealing from Guyana Learning Channel

18[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 35 – year – old Custom Broker of Foulis, East Coast Demerara was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment by Magistrate Ann McLennan for stealing a camera from the Guyana Learning Channel.

Ronald Williams pleaded guilty to the charge, particulars of which noted that on Wednesday, May 21 at Battery Road, Kingston, Georgetown, he stole a Sony High Definition Video Camera valued $800,000, from the Guyana Learning Channel, property of the Ministry of Education (MOE).

Police Prosecutor, Dinero Jones told the Court that on the day in question, Williams was seen by the Chief Executive Officer of the Learning Channel in the studio. At the time he had a laptop bag, which was searched and the camera was recovered.

Williams begged Magistrate McLennan for Leniency after telling the Court that he returned the item when it was found in his possession. He expressed to the Court, his burden of providing and maintaining his six children.

The Court heard that Williams was previously convicted on a simple larceny charge and was sentenced to 66 months imprisonment.
