A Spanish-speaking woman is currently being sought by Police following the fatal stabbing of a miner last Thursday at Bamboo Landing, Barama River, Region One (Barima-Waini).
The dead man has been identified only by his alias “Alligator”, a resident of Port Kaituma, Region One. Reports indicate that the incident occurred at a local shop in the community during evening hours, where both the victim and the suspect were present. Information gathered suggested that the two were known to each other and had been involved in a relationship marked by previous altercations, particularly during drinking episodes.
According to reports, the woman was inside the shop when the miner arrived to purchase alcoholic beverages. An argument reportedly ensued, during which she allegedly attempted to take money from him. The man is said to have pushed her away.
Eyewitnesses claim the confrontation escalated quickly, and the woman allegedly broke a bottle and used it to stab the miner in the neck.
After the attack, she fled the scene, while bystanders rushed to assist the injured man. Despite their efforts, he succumbed to his injuries due to excessive bleeding before medical help could be obtained. Police have since launched an investigation and are pursuing the suspect. The Police have not issued a statement on the incident to date.
