Two persons are now homeless following a mid-morning fire on Sunday at Canefield, East Canje, Region 6.
The fire completely gutted the two storey building Lot 1103 Canefield, East Canje.
INews was told that the fire of unknown origin started at about 11:00hrs in the upper flat of the building, which is owned by Chunilall Basdeo, 61. The man lives in the lower flat of the building with his 10-year-old granddaughter.
Reports are that the upper flat was unoccupied for some time now because of Basdeo’s inability to climb the stairs as a result of an illness.
INews was told that the New Amsterdam Fire Service responded and managed to contain the blaze from spreading to nearby houses.
An investigation has been launched.
