Brazilian teens deny marijuana possession

Nineteen – year – old Poniro Lucas Da Silva and 18 year old Jumetoo Tiang De Sauza both of Bon Fim, Brazil appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman to answer the charge of possession of narcotics for the purpose of trafficking.

Both men pleaded not guilty to the offence. The court heard that on July 13 at Takutu Bridge, Lethem the men had 468 grams of cannabis in their possession.

According to Police Prosecutor Vishnu Hunte, on the day in question police patrol on the bridge encountered the two accused on a pedal cycle. The ranks searched the men and found three parcels of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis.

According to the Prosecutor, the men admitted to having the illegal substance and told the ranks that they were transporting it to Brazil for payments. The Magistrate refused bail and both men were remanded to prison until July 17. [Royan Abrams]
