Police are investigating an alleged murder which occurred on Saturday July 18, 2026, about 23:00hrs at Rock Creek Backdam, Puruni River, resulting in the death of Antonio Pereira Figueredo, a 53-year-old Brazilian national and gold miner of Manaus, Brazil.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased and a 50-year-old Brazilian national, who is his wife, were involved in an argument at their mining camp. It is alleged that during the incident, the man received a stab wound to his abdomen.

Police visited the scene, where the body of the deceased was found lying on the ground next to one of the camps with what appeared to be a stab wound to the abdomen. Acting on information received, ranks recovered a kitchen knife suspected to have been used in the commission of the offence.

The suspect was arrested and escorted to Bartica Police Station where she was placed in custody.

The body was escorted to the Bartica Regional Hospital, where it was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor on duty. It was thereafter transferred to Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.

The suspect remains in custody as investigations continue.
