Boat captain feared dead after boat collision along Barima River

A boat captain, Grant Anna, of Regina, Lower Pomeroon River, is feared dead after the boat he was operating collided with another in the vicinity of Kokerite Village, North West District, Barima River, on Thursday. The missing man was only identified as “King.

According to information received, a small balahoo was proceeding along the Barama River from Bamboo Landing, North West District, to Charity with four passengers when it collided with a small aluminum boat.

As a result of the collision, the two occupants of the aluminum boat fell into the river. One occupant, a 23-year-old male from Kariako Village, was rescued, while the captain of the aluminum boat went underwater and disappeared.

Police stated that checks were made for the missing man, but he has not yet been located. The rescued occupant was escorted to the Moruca District Hospital, where he was treated and remains under observation. The captain of the balahoo was arrested and is assisting police with the investigation.
