A 49-year-old man last evening died in a fire at his home at Number 30 Village, West Coast Berbice.
The victim has been identified as Floyd Moriah who lived alone.
Preliminary reports indicate that the man’s house went up in flames at around 19:30hrs.
Moriah was reportedly trapped inside the burning building.
Emergency services, including personnel from the Guyana Fire Service and the Guyana Police Force, were alerted to the scene.
Firefighters battled to bring the inferno under control, preventing it from spreading to neighbouring properties. Their efforts continued late into the night, and the blaze was eventually extinguished.
Tragically, the remains of Moriah were discovered within the charred debris.
Authorities are currently conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
