Police in Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) are on the hunt for a 17-year-old male following the fatal stabbing of a man along the Corentyne Highway at Nigg Village on Friday afternoon.
Dead is 48-year-old Carter Baboolall of Nigg New Housing Area, Corentyne.
The incident occurred just outside the Nigg Post Office, and investigators believe the teenager fled the area immediately after the attack.
Baboolall had reportedly been renting an apartment at the Nigg New Housing Area for the past seven years and lived alone. He worked as a labourer at a hardware store in the area.
His landlord described him as a quiet and reserved man who rarely interacted with others living at the apartment complex. “He ain’t used to mix up with people. He just used to keep to heself,” the landlord related.
One man who arrived at the scene shortly after the incident recalled seeing several persons gathered around the injured man. He said residents told him that the suspect had attacked Baboolall before fleeing the area.
Meanwhile, the suspect’s mother told this publication that she received a phone call on Friday evening, informing her that her son had allegedly stabbed another man during a confrontation.
The woman related that she was told that the altercation allegedly began after Baboolall confronted her son.
According to the woman, persons claim that the deceased allegedly cuffed the teenager several times before he young man retaliated by stabbing Baboolall.
The distraught mother said she has been desperately trying to contact her son since hearing of the incident.
“I went and searched for him and I can’t find him… I really, really stressed out, you know, if he gone and do something to himself or if he still alive… I don’t even know if he dead or if he alive or which side he in,” she lamented.
Police have since launched an investigation and are continuing efforts to locate the teenager.
