Battered, bound body of suspected pirate found in Corentyne backlands

1
The battered and bound body of an alleged piracy gang member was, this evening (Wednesday), found in the backlands of Number 68 Village in Corentyne, Berbice.
Reports are the body of 28-year-old Levan Chanderpaul, of Number 68 Village, was discovered with his hands and feet bound. The discovery was made at about 19:30 hrs by a teenager who was returning to the village from the backdam.
Details are still sketchy, but INews understands that Chanderpaul’s body bore several marks of violence.
Chandrapaul, a fisherman, was in December 2011 charged and placed before the court after he was suspected to have been a part of a notorious pirate gang.
He was slated to appear before the Springlands Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Tuesday)  on a simple larceny and threatening language charge, but was absent.
INews understands that he has also been charged with armed robbery in the past. Police are investigating.
