The Ministry of Home Affairs continues its region-wide modernization campaign with the commissioning of the newly constructed Tuschen Police Station, delivering enhanced law enforcement infrastructure to one of the fastest-growing residential areas in Region Three. This latest commissioning builds on recent inaugurations of public safety facilities across the region, including the Den Amstel Police Station, Leonora Fire Station, and the Region Three Command Centre.

The facility was commissioned by Home Affairs Minister, Robeson Benn and Permanent Secretary, Andre Ally together with Deputy Commissioner ‘Operations’ Errol Watts, Regional Commander, Assistant Commissioner Mahendra Siwnarine, and Deputy Commander, Senior Superintendent Kevin Das.

Constructed at a cost of $82,995,706, the Tuschen Police Station replaces what was formerly a small police outpost, and now offers a full-service, modern facility equipped to meet the security needs of Tuschen and surrounding communities. The station is expected to improve police visibility, enable faster response to criminal activity, and foster stronger engagement with citizens in this rapidly developing area.

The facility features a suite of operational and administrative components aligned with national standards for community-focused policing. Among its core amenities are dedicated lockups for male, female, and juvenile detainees, ensuring that the rights and safety of all individuals are upheld. A Witness and ID Parade Room, Armory, and Evidence Room enable the secure processing of investigations and support criminal justice procedures.

To better serve vulnerable groups and promote a victim-centered approach to policing, the station includes a Child-Friendly Area, as well as a Domestic Violence Interview and Waiting Area, allowing for privacy, care, and specialized support during sensitive cases.

The station is further equipped with an Enquiries Section to handle public reporting and service access, an Office for the Officer-in-Charge (O.C.), a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Office, and a Traffic Department Office, enabling a well-coordinated and responsive police presence across operational areas.

In recognition of the 24-hour demands of policing, the facility also includes living quarters for both senior and junior ranks, allowing officers to remain stationed and ready to respond to emergencies in real-time.

During the ceremony, Minister Benn and PS Ally also handed over a consignment of safety helmets to Regional Commander #3, Assistant Commissioner Mahendra Siwnarine.

The helmets are to be distributed as part of the “Do the Right Thing” campaign, a national road safety initiative that promotes responsible behaviour and greater public awareness, especially among motorcyclists. The handover signifies a continued focus not only on enforcement but also on education and prevention as cornerstones of public safety.

The Tuschen Police Station represents not only a physical upgrade but a strategic move to scale policing services in line with community growth. The government is committed to ensuring that every community, whether long-established or newly emerging, has access to quality, professional law enforcement services.

The commissioning of the Tuschen Police Station is the latest in a series of infrastructure advancements under the government’s “Safe City to Safe Country” initiative, which aims to deliver modern, effective, and citizen-centered public safety services nationwide. (Ministry of Home Affairs)
