Police ranks, led by a Gazetted Officer, conducted an eradication exercise at De Veldt, Upper Berbice River between 05:00hrs and 13:50hrs on Friday, March 20, 2026.
During the exercise, two (2) fields with a combined area of approximately seven (7) acres were located, on which approximately six hundred and forty thousand (640,000) cannabis plants were discovered. The plants ranged between four (4) and ten (10) feet in height.
One (1) large drying area was also found at the location, where approximately eight hundred and fifty (850) pounds of dried cannabis were discovered.
The cannabis plants, dried cannabis and drying area were destroyed by fire. No arrests were made and the operation was conducted without incident.
The estimated value of the narcotics destroyed is five hundred and fifty-one million, seven hundred and sixty-seven thousand, nine hundred and seventy-one dollars and forty-eight cents ($551,767,971.48) Guyana currency.
Investigations continue.
