Minister of Health Dr Frank Anthony today commissioned a state-of-the-art mammogram machine at the Public Hospital Suddie, in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), marking a significant step in expanding breast cancer screening services across the country.

The Siemens mammogram machine, acquired at an approximate cost of GY$43 million, is renowned for its exceptional depth resolution and diagnostic accuracy, making it one of the most advanced systems globally.

Previously, the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) was the only public health facility offering mammography services. With this addition, residents on the Essequibo Coast now have improved access to early breast cancer detection, reducing the need to travel long distances for screenings.

Just a few weeks ago, the Health Minister commissioned a similar machine at the Linden Hospital Complex in Region Ten (Upper Demerara-Berbice).
