Over 300 boxes from Region Four subdistrict four have been recounted and so far, there has been no significant change in the results of Monday’s elections.

This is according to GECOM Commissioner Sase Gunraj in an update on his Facebook page at around 10:30hrs.

The recount was requested by the A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) and approved by GECOM. It commenced yesterday morning at GECOM’s Barrack Street location in Georgetown.

A total of 25 workstations have been established to process the 395 ballot boxes.

Gunraj had explained to reporters that staff will work through the night.

“The end of the first day will finish at midnight and the end of the second day will start at 12.01. Because as you are aware, this process is intended to run from the start this morning until concluded,” he told reporters on Thursday evening.

GECOM has also approved APNU’s request for a recount of 77 boxes from Region Five. This will commence as soon as the 395 boxes from Region Four are completed.
