Three men are now dead following a fiery crash involving two motorcycles and a motor car along the Perth Public Road on the Essequibo Coast.
The accident occurred at about 18:40h on Friday, resulting in the death of 62-year-old Leon Marks of 214 Hoppie Street Dartmouth, Essequibo Coast, 28-year-old Reion Alphanso of Lot 660 Charity Extension Scheme, Essequibo Coast, and 18-year-old Daveanand Bernard of Onderneeming Red Village, Essequibo Coast – all of whom were on the two motorcycles.

Based on police reports, the motorcar was proceeding north on the western drive lane when the driver said a motorcycle was approaching from the opposite direction at a fast rate with a bright light, affecting his visibility.
As a result, he slowed down and eventually stopped on the road. At the time, however, another motorcycle was behind his car and attempted to overtake, but in the process collided head-on with the bike proceeding in the opposite direction.

As a result of the collision, a loud explosion was heard, and both motorcycles were subsequently engulfed in flames.
The pillion rider of one of the motorcycles was flung onto the windshield of the car and then onto the roadway alongside the two motorcyclists – all of whom were injured.
Police say motorcyclist Davenand Bernard, who felt on the road way and was in close proximity of his motorcycle was severely burnt on the upper part of his body, while Leon Marks, another motorcyclist, was picked up in unconscious state and conveyed to the Oscar Joseph Hospital at Charity, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His body is presently lying at the said hospital mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination
Meanwhile, Bernard was transferred to the Suddie Public Hospital, where he was also pronounced dead on arrival. His body is presently lying at the said hospital mortuary, also awaiting a post-mortem examination
Reion Alphonso, who was the pillion rider on Mark’s motorcycle, was taken to the Oscar Joseph Hospital, where he was treated and admitted but later referred to the Suddie Public Hospital via ambulance.

He was further examined there and placed in the Intensive Care Unit (I.C.U.), where he succumbed during the process of receiving medical attention. His body is presently lying at the Suddie Hospital mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The driver of the motor car, a 69-year-old farmer of Dartmouth Village, is currently in custody assisting with the police investigation. Police say a breathalyzer test found he had (5) and (8) micrograms, respectively, of alcohol in his system, which is below the legal limit of 35 micrograms.
