Three males were arrested by police in Regional Division #3 (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara) in connection with an attempted robbery at Tuschen New Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo, early this morning.
According to police reports, at about 06:48h today, four suspects attempted to break into the home of a 42-year-old Director of Projects at the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA).
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was at his home when he exited through the western door to dispose of garbage. He returned inside, secured the door, and proceeded to his bedroom, where he checked his security cameras and observed four males entering his yard, all of whom appeared to be wearing masks.
The victim reportedly observed the men approaching his western door, attempting to open it and he immediately contacted the Police.
Acting on information received, Police ranks intercepted three males at Fisher Dam, Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo.
The three males were identified as a 23-year-old labourer of Tucville, Georgetown; a 22-year-old labourer of Tucville, Georgetown, and a 22-year-old security guard of Cane View Squatting Area, Georgetown.
Searches were conducted on the suspects, and a black suspected firearm with three matching rounds of ammunition was found in a haversack worn by one of the suspects. He was told of the allegation, cautioned, and arrested.
A further search was conducted on the other suspects, revealing another suspected firearm with three matching rounds of ammunition concealed on the person of the 23-year-old. He was also told of the allegation, cautioned, and arrested.
The suspected firearms and ammunition were taken to Leonora Police Station, where they were marked, sealed and lodged.
The scene was revisited, and several CCTV cameras were observed in the area. Footage was extracted for processing by Crime Scene Technicians.
The three suspects remain in custody as further investigations are ongoing.
