Twenty – Three – year old Sunita Persaud died at the Georgetown Public Hospital yesterday, Sunday June 30, after she was struck down by an alleged drunk driver.
According to the Police, the woman of Rosehall, Corentyne, was struck down by a motor vehicle while crossing the Port Mourant Public Road.
It was noted that she was taken to the New Amsterdam Hospital and referred to the GPHC where she later succumbed.
Police stated that the driver of the motor vehicle, who attempted to flee the scene, was later found to be over the legal limit in relation to the consumption of alcohol.
He is currently in police custody.
